The XRP Ledger is counting down to a major payments upgrade, with Batch V1.1 now in its two-week activation window and about nine days left for it to arrive on the mainnet.
Batch V1.1 is a replacement amendment that ships the corrected Batch implementation in xrpld v3.3.0 and achieved majority (above 80% support) on September 15.
The XRP Ledger's amendment system uses a consensus process to approve changes that affect transaction processing. If an amendment gets over 80% support for two weeks, it passes and the change applies permanently to all subsequent ledger versions.
Batch V1.1 is currently fulfilling this requirement, now at 85.71% consensus. Based on data from xrpscan, Batch V1.1 is expected to activate no earlier than Sep 29, 2026 at 2:06 PM UTC, if support holds at or above 80% during the activation window.
Next big payment upgrade for XRP?
Batch (XLS-56) allows multiple XRPL transactions from multiple accounts to be executed atomically in a single ledger close. If an inner transaction fails in the all-or-nothing mode of the feature, the entire batch is rolled back. This simplifies a variety of atomic activities and serves as the foundation for multi-party coordination on the XRPL, including atomic swaps, coordinated settlements, and any workflow in which two or more parties must proceed in lockstep without relying on trust.
Batch is required or serves as an accelerant for several high-value XRPL use cases already under contract or in active pipeline, such as atomic multi-party settlements.
Institutional workflows (custody transfers, DvP settlement, and cross-border payment finalization) require two or more accounts to act simultaneously. Batch eliminates the need for trust in execution ordering, thereby removing a category of race conditions and partial-execution concerns.
Batch allows for the native implementation of programmatic chain patterns (such as multi-call, atomic bundles, and flash loans) on XRPL without the need for smart contracts, lowering the barrier to entry for new builders. Batch also allows DEXs, wallets, and marketplaces to monetize the transactions they execute by bundling the base transaction (such as a payment) with a platform fee.
