Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz recently pushed back against criticism of the XRP Ledger.

X user 'scams are bad' referred to the XRP Ledger as a 'ghost chain,' claiming that a large share of its transaction activity came from bots and other automated accounts, with less than 1% in real human payments over the last eight years.

The XRP critic's post caught the attention of Schwartz who is also an original architect of the XRP Ledger, and he pushed back against the claims, saying it was a 'weird thing to say.'

Schwartz highlighted the XRP Ledger's cheap fees, which make it attractive to different users. "This is such a weird thing to say. Yes, it's very cheap. Yes, you can use it for useful things and useless things," Schwartz said, highlighting XRPL's utility, which continues to grow across various fronts.

The Ripple CTO Emeritus posed a question to the critic: "If it were more expensive and fewer people did low-value things on it, would that somehow make it better?"

The X user seemingly concurred with the Ripple CTO Emeritus's argument about XRPL's utility as against a ghost chain, saying, "Just highlighting the usage breakdown." The use of the word 'usage' in his response implies that the XRP Ledger is not a ghost chain, contrary to his earlier claim.

XRP, XRP Ledger usage continues to grow

XRP's utility continues to grow, both directly and indirectly, as institutional DeFi adoption for use cases such as tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), stablecoins, and decentralized liquidity drives more XRP operations.

The XRP Ledger presently has a distributed real-world asset (RWA) market cap of $458.37 million. The distributed RWA market cap excludes represented RWAs and non-yield-bearing stablecoins, whereas the represented asset value is at $4.06 billion.

XRP Ledger usage is also increasing in agentic finance, with total agentic transactions surpassing 4.8 million. AI agents pay for token analysis, crypto intelligence, market research, and prediction-market projections on the XRP Ledger using XRP or RLUSD.

In separate news, Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz shared a recent update about his hub, which he said has been running perfectly save for two events over the past two days where the peer count dropped and some latencies went up. However, these incidents were associated with minor network disruptions and not XRPL-specific issues.
