The Litecoin (LTC) blockchain has marked a significant milestone: 15 years of uninterrupted operation since the launch of its genesis block in 2011. On the anniversary, Grayscale's head of research, Zach Pandl, drew attention to an unusual surge in mentions of the coin, publicly backing the market veteran and calling it an "OG altcoin" — an original, classic asset that has retained its fundamental value.
Litecoin's main phenomenon remains its staying power: the network has operated without a single outage or shutdown since day one. According to on-chain data as of October 7, 2026, the blockchain processes around 156,000 transactions per day, while its MWEB privacy pool has reached a record size of more than 563,000 LTC.
At the same time, the average transaction fee remains just $0.003, making the network several times more efficient than Bitcoin for everyday payments. Its overall security is supported by a hashrate of 2,671.43 TH/s, with 9.10 million active addresses.
Not a monument to crypto-anarchism, but a candidate for a New York listing: What's next for LTC
Grayscale's pragmatic interest in the anniversary asset is backed by commercial plans as well. The firm is not involved in blockchain development, but it manages the largest investment product based on the coin: the Grayscale Litecoin Trust (LTCN), with net assets of $97,560,938 and 24.25 million shares outstanding.
In September, the company filed an amended application with regulators to convert the trust into a full-fledged spot ETF listed on NYSE Arca. Although SEC approval is still pending and a smaller fund from Canary Capital is already trading, Grayscale's product remains the main bridge for institutional investors.
Litecoin enters its 15th anniversary not as a forgotten relic of the early crypto era, but as a mature, legally compliant instrument ready for a full-fledged debut on the world's leading stock exchange.
