The official Cardano Card X (formerly Twitter) account announced that the multi-chain crypto payment card associated with the Cardano ecosystem, Cardano Card, will be discontinued on October 31, 2026.
In an important update for cardholders, the account said the Cardano Card will continue to function normally until the scheduled sunset date. The announcement gives users a deadline to prepare for the end of the service while they await further information about the program's future.
This decision follows a change in business direction by Wirex, the partner behind the Cardano Card program. The announcement said Wirex will shut down its existing custodial infrastructure and move to a non-custodial model. Consequently, its partnership with the Cardano Card program will end on October 31, 2026.
In November 2025, Emurgo announced a partnership with Wirex to launch the official Cardano Card, integrated into the Wirex app and accessible to over 6 million users in 130 countries.
The Cardano Card enables users to spend over 685 cryptocurrencies including ADA, BTC, ETH, and USDC, and pay anywhere Visa is accepted. Users can also access DeFi services such as loans and yield.
Now the card is set to be discontinued on October 31, 2026, leaving the Cardano community to seek answers on what comes next.
According to the notice by Cardano Card, for holders directly affected, it seeks to hear from them first. The account also indicated that more details about what comes next for the program would be shared soon.
October 31 remains key date
It should be recalled that in July 2026, Emurgo, the entity behind the Cardano Card, announced it was stepping down from its duties as a member of the Pentad—a collaborative executive governance and strategic alignment structure formed by five key entities in the Cardano ecosystem to drive critical infrastructure deployment and growth—in order to focus on the SecondFi recovery process. This leaves the rest of the Pentad as Input Output, Cardano Foundation, Intersect, and Midnight Foundation.
Given this, what comes next for the Cardano Card remains unknown, as it has not yet been confirmed whether a replacement card, a new service provider, or an alternative payment arrangement will be introduced.
For ADA holders who use the card, October 31, 2026, remains the key date to remember.
