The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is set for a significant week ahead as its long-awaited cleanup upgrade heads for mainnet activation this week, bringing a wide-ranging collection of fixes and improvements to the blockchain.
The fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment, a collection of fixes for Single Asset Vaults, the Lending Protocol, Automated Market Makers, the permissioned DEX, trust lines, NFTs, MPTs, Escrow, Sponsorship, transaction signing, and permission delegation, is at the center of attention, with validator support putting it on track for a potential November 4 activation, provided the required voting threshold of 80% is sustained.
The earliest activation date is Nov 4, 2026 at 2:46 PM UTC, with just 2 days left according to the xrpscan countdown timer.
What comes next?
Some tokens on the XRP Ledger are supposed to be stored in accounts approved by their issuer; however, developers have found a few ways around that rule.
Issuers of regulated assets, such as stablecoins or tokenized funds, can require approval before anyone holds their tokens, typically to perform identity checks first.
Four proposed code changes would resolve the remaining exceptions. All four are included in a single network upgrade dubbed fixCleanup3_5_0.
These have not been merged into the XRP Ledger's main software yet. Once they are, fixCleanup3_5_0 requires support from more than 80% of the network's trusted validators for two weeks before being activated.
XRP Ledger developers alerted to critical Linux kernel vulnerability
According to Hussein Zangana (Vet), director of community at XRP Ledger Foundation, there is a critical Linux kernel vulnerability on kernels 4.4+, affecting any unpatched Linux server in the world with an open IPv4 TCP port. For XRP Ledger node and validator operators who run RHEL 8/9/10, Debian 12/13, Amazon Linux, and Oracle UEK, a fix has already been shipped; they are simply expected to update and reboot.
For those who run Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, Rocky, CentOS Stream, this might not suffice, as they may need to take further steps until a fix is shipped for their distro. They should re-apply the nft rule after a reboot or a flush ruleset reload.
