FOM: In the Duma elections, “United Russia” will receive about 50% of the votes on party lists

In the party-list voting for the State Duma elections, “United Russia” is expected to receive about 50% of the vote. The VTsIOM Analytical Center and the “Public Opinion” Foundation (FOM). Sociologists and political scientists explain that the ruling party is benefiting from support for President Vladimir Putin and the ongoing socio-political consolidation under current conditions. The distribution of votes among the other candidates in the election race is not yet clear, and the total number of parties in parliament may even decrease due to a possible failure of “Fair Russia,” an expert suggests.

According to VTsIOM’s estimates, the projected voter turnout ranges from 51% to 53%. This figure is comparable to those from five years ago, noted VTsIOM representative Mikhail Mamonov at a roundtable hosted by the Expert Institute for Social Research on September 10. However, poll data on “United Russia” (UR) is “significantly higher” than in 2021, suggesting that the party will surpass the 50 percent threshold, the sociologist pointed out. Among the reasons for such a high result, Mr. Mamonov cited support for the president, the factor of consolidation, and the accompanying rallying of people around the government, a “strong slate of candidates,” and an “effective information campaign.”
