Ethereum trades near $2,505 today. To reach $3,000 by December, it needs a gain of approximately 20% in 3 months. That is possible in crypto, but the chart makes it a difficult climb. ETH has dropped approximately 7% since October 6, when it sat near $2,697.
In late September, it moved sideways between support near $2,620 and resistance near $2,800. Now, the price is below that range, and the $2,650 area has turned from support into a ceiling. The 50-day average near $2,492 is the next floor to watch, with the 100-day near $2,321 below it. The 200-day sits near $2,272.
Scenario 1: Breakout
Buyers reclaim $2,650, then push through the $2,775 to $2,825 zone and hold it. That could open a clean path to $3,000, especially if the Federal Reserve decision on October 28 is friendly.
Scenario 2: Range and drift
ETH remains between $2,300 and $2,800 through December. Rallies fade near $2,700, and dips get bought near $2,500. It ends the year without touching $3,000.
Scenario 3: Breakdown
A close below $2,492 sends the price toward $2,321, and then toward the 200-day near $2,272. A drop that deep could push $3,000 well into 2027.
Apart from technical factors, the spot Ether ETFs lost $85.4 million on October 12, extending a streak of daily outflows. That is a sharp turn from September, when these funds took in approximately $445 million. ETFs are a large source of steady demand, so this matters.
There is also a supply issue. Fee burns offset only approximately 2% of new ETH issued, so supply continues to grow by roughly 0.64%. More coins are being created than destroyed, which adds selling pressure when demand is weak.
Reaching $3,000 by December is possible, but it is not the most likely outcome. ETH needs ETF inflows to return and a close above $2,825 first. Until then, the odds lean toward a range or a dip.
